Recently featured in The Sunday Times’ Top ‘100 Summer Days Out’, the 11th annual Weston Sand Sculpture Festival is in full swing and is just down the road from Lakeside Holiday Park!
The Weston Sand Sculpture Festival takes place every year from April to the end of September on the beach at Weston-Super-Mare and features some of the most awe-inspiring sand sculptures you’ll ever see! Every year has it’s own theme, with past themes including Fairy Tales, Great Britain, Hollywood and ‘When I Grow Up’.
This year’s theme is ‘Topsy Turvy’ so you can expect a whole world of upside-down and back-to-front strangeness on the beach this summer. Artistic leader Nicola Wood commented, ”We are all so excited about the public choice. It’s the perfect theme to give incredible freedom to the artists and that always makes for a great exhibition”.
Don’t think that the Weston Sand Sculpture Festival is just for looking at – far from it! The festival features a range of activities and gives you the opportunity to get involved. Official festival sculptors visit the site on a regular basis and create new pieces before your very eyes and the festival team are always on-hand to answer all your questions or to take you on a guided tour. You can even become part of sculptures with the sites special photography podiums – a new take on the traditional peephole photograph. The site also features a ‘sand-cinema’ where you can learn the art of sand sculpture for yourself.
